Reuters is looking for a reporter with a strong background in breaking news and developing business stories to join the Argentina team. The position, based in Buenos Aires, will involve extensive coverage of key Latin American economic news, from the country’s economy, the relationship with the International Monetary Fund and changes in the grain and food supply of the leading exporter of soybeans, corn and beef.
The position will also involve collaborating with colleagues in Chile and Peru to help cover the dynamic “Southern Cone” region, made up of six Spanish-speaking countries that also include Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia. The person selected should have strong news judgment and be able to help drive coverage in Argentina and other countries. We are looking for someone with enthusiasm for developing sources and a flair for writing.
The Argentina correspondent must have the attention to detail and speed to cover breaking news and the ability to deliver wide-ranging stories, explaining complex issues to readers around the world.
Main responsibilities:
- You will have the ability to write and report to quickly provide detailed information and deal with breaking news.
- Develop sources to deliver news in each area of the archive.
- You will have the ability to elevate copy from editors and mentor junior members of the team.
- Work closely with colleagues in the picture section to identify and present strong multimedia stories.
What qualifications we look in the person to be select?
- At least 5 years in journalism
- Advanced command of oral and written English
- Experience covering business and economics
- Enthusiasm, drive and ability to think outside the box
- Ability to produce insightful and impactful business journalism that illuminates complex issues
- Ability and ambition to help lead a team
