Reuters is seeking an energetic and experienced journalist to join our team in Buenos Aires as Correspondent, to help drive initiative coverage of key themes from libertarian President Javier Milei’s efforts to restructure the economy to the evolution of booming business areas including grains, shale oil and gas, and electric battery metal lithium, that are of keen interest to our clients.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter who will work with colleagues in Buenos Aires and beyond to develop ambitious, deeply-reported stories getting under the skin of South America’s second largest economy, which is grappling with triple-digit inflation, tough capital controls, rising poverty and the looming threat of recession. The country is one of the world’s top food producers with soy, corn, wheat and beef, has major lithium reserves, is the IMF’s largest single debtor and has a huge and creaking bond market, making it of key importance to investors, policy makers, companies and traders.

About The Role

  • Writes stories with accuracy and speed and in accordance with our principles and operating standards.
  • Gathers information to break news and write stories.
  • Builds and maintains a set of contacts to break news.
  • Builds expertise and knowledge to broaden and deepen coverage.
  • Embraces the principle of telling stories using the most appropriate media available.
  • Understands the news needs of our business and interacts with clients and business stakeholders.
  • May be an expert in a particular sector.
  • May lead or coach a small team or a team across a region and seeks to get the best of members through empowerment, coaching, mentoring and training.
  • May run a network of stringers.
  • Help lead and collaborate on key enterprise stories in the bureau
  • Develop key sources to break news on strategic coverage areas
  • Work closely with visuals colleagues on multimedia coverage

About You
